Now I've completed my degree (Environmental Studies BA via distance learning with the University of Exeter, grade 2:1) and achieved my Associate membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment I'm working towards achieving full membership of the IEMA and Chartered Environmentalist status.
My interest is in Business and Biodiversity and I am connecting my work with my writing with this project:
Trees are for life, not just for carbon
This is a new project I am working on which will aim to demistify what biodiversity means to business. It is not written for academics or the larger organisations who can afford to buy in the services of consultants. It is for anyone else that cares about wildlife but doesn't want to be a scientist and wants to make a difference.

Badgers
I am still in the role of Co-ordinator for the Stevenage area with the Herts & Middlesex Badger Group, although due to other commitments I am sharing the duties with Paul Simister. We keep records of all the badger setts in the area, making sure that they are filed with the groups own recorder and also making sure that Stevenage Council are aware of their presence in case of planning applications. I also hope to raise awareness locally and contribute positively to the welfare of our local badgers.
I have trained a large group of the Stevenage Tree Wardens to ensure we have a wide circle of supporters active 'in the field'. If you are interested in badgers click here to visit the Herts & Middlesex Badger Group website. As a charity we always welcome new members!
Tree Warden Scheme
I have registered with Stevenage Council as a Tree Warden. This means that I will be watching out for any tree related issues in my area, reporting problems to the Council, and help with planting of new trees and management of existing ones.
Stevenage Council have now launched a Biodiversity Action Plan and The Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust have appointed someone to assist with its implementation.
If you are interested in becoming a Tree Warden, or would like to help with logging the wildlife in Stevenage click here to email Richard Arnold.
Breaking the Boundaries of Biodiversity and Business, A commentary
I am very proud to be an Associate Member of the IEMA. This is a response to a discussion on the IEMA forum which might be thought provoking for others. If you are interested in environmental issues and would like to know more, either contact me, or visit the IEMA website here.
